About My Climate Plan: My Climate Plan is a start-up beneficial membership organization with members in Canada, the US and around the world working together to create climate safe communities.
Our team includes leaders from Canada, the US and India who bring decades of experience in boot-strapping successful start-ups, executive leadership of civic engagement platforms with 100M+ active users, advancing Indigenous rights, high-level government decision-making, and mass coalition leadership. The team is supported by dozens of collaborators in fields from climate impacts to AI.
We’re drawing on our experience with the best of tech platforms and beneficial membership models to a) help people understand how climate change will impact them, b) make a plan to act (that bridges to existing solution providers and organizations where possible), and then c) join as members for lasting benefits, community, support and advocacy in their region.
We welcome and value the contributions individuals who identify as members of equity-deserving communities bring to our organization, and encourage you to apply.
The Job: You will be part of a team prototyping a fresh approach to help people understand the climate impacts they face, make personal plans that connect to solutions and organizations in their communities, and get ongoing support and benefits to act.
The approach we’re designing together is focused on connecting with people when they care the most – when they see climate impacts around them and in the news – and then bridging them to a life-long journey of individual and collective action.
The deep emotional hook is about supporting people to create a better future in the face of an overwhelming crisis, the surface level promise is about guidance in the face of overwhelm and avoiding loss.
We are in the testing phase of the organization – experimenting with different approaches to reach and support a broad range of people from different walks of life.
You will take the lead on providing scientific and solutions advice to the team – the ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of climate impacts and solutions. You will inform and review the work of the content and platform leads as we help people understand the climate impacts they face, and the actions they can take to contribute to individual and collective solutions.
Essential qualities for this role:
- You have a breadth of expertise in a) climate impacts that are happening now and potential scenarios for 2030 and 2050 b) climate solutions for mitigation and resilience c) disaster and emergency management. A is most important to us in this phase of the project, while C is a bonus.
- You care about empowering non-experts
- Bonus skill: You have experience with communicating with the public and public education
- You enjoy learning in groups and networks, surfacing and resolving knowledge and disagreements between people with a wide range of experience and backgrounds
- Bonus skill: you have managed a research or policy team or network
How to apply: Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, with the goal of hiring swiftly. Please email a CV to jamie@myclimateplan.com to apply with a few bullet points and/or links to highlight your relevant experience. Thank you!
