Dear friends,
There are hundreds of us now. By the end of the year there will be thousands of us. While most of us are in Canada and the US, there are people in the My Climate Plan community on at least three continents.
We are grateful to each and every one of you.
This project started because we wanted to face an uncertain future together. We want to link friends, families and communities around the world to build a member organization that can help us all as the world gets worse, and help us all give it a chance to become better.
Every week now we are hitting a new milestone – last week we were able to use a portion of our Founding Members contributions to get articles about protecting homes from wildfire smoke into the news feeds of people whose communities were blanketed with air that smells like campfires.
In turn, many of those people read those articles and then signed up to join this community – and, like you, are getting this newsletter now. Welcome!
That’s part of how we will grow – providing tangible help to people experiencing climate disasters, and inviting them to join us.
We are also taking the time to be careful about how we grow.
We need to make sure that the My Climate Plan community will bridge divides before we grow so fast that we risk getting stuck.
If we’re only able to talk to the people the climate movement is best at talking to, then we wont bring enough people together to make our communities climate safe.
That’s why, in addition to starting to provide these weekly newsletters, we’re focused on two big projects this summer: building a prototype of the My Climate Plan platform that people from different communities can start using, and reaching out directly to ask what kinds of content, community, benefits and advocacy they want.
Expect more on both projects in the coming weeks.
Take good care,
Jamie and the My Climate Plan team
